I have been a patient of Dr Shrestha for over 9 years. The other day I went to her new location in Torrance and wow! I was so happy to see how welcoming this facility was- parking was great- and I didn't have to wait long. It's not an easy thing finding a good dentist, so I am incredibly thankful to have Dr Shrestha. Incredible, caring, patient, dedicated dentist.

Great office! Such amazing service! And such a beautiful dental assistant. I had been to many practices where all they really cared about was the money, and you could tell simply by the way you were treated the moment you walked in. The first person you get greeted by walking in was Yancy, she was very kind and explained things to me fully in my treatment plan and answered all the questions I had. As far as meeting Dr. Rosi, she was very gentle and very kind. She did her best to ensure that I was comfortable and experienced the least pain possible. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, and I look forward to continuing my treatment with this office and they're lovely staff.

Had to do a last minute appointment due to a filling falling out and they were able to see me within a week! Dr. Rosi and her staff are extremely pleasant to interact with. They made sure i wouldn't leave without being completely satisfied and comfortable with my fillings. They are very professional and during the more uncomfortable parts of the procedures they made sure it was done swiftly yet correctly and always kept me informed during the process. I Highly recommend Dr. Rosi and her staff to anyone, especially those who aren't the biggest fans of going to the dentist, because they might even make you WANT to go back for the experience.

As you can see she has all 5 star reviews and deserves each one. Everyone in the office is very welcoming & friendly. I highly recommend coming here. If you're the type that feels uneasy about dental visits Dr. Shrestha will make you relaxed. I even scheduled my next appointment in advance which is something I never do but I trust coming back to Dr. Shrestha. I may be a new customer but I can assure you I will not go to any other dentist.

You must make an appointment with Dr. Shrestha! She takes the time to educate her patients and answer all their questions. Dr. S is a consummate professional in every way and she does everything she can to make you feel welcome in her office. Her office staff is also very warm and welcoming. She's been taking care of my teeth for several years now and I am a more informed patient as a result of being her patient. Plus I am complimented all the time on my gorgeous white teeth (no one guesses they are porcelain veneers!).

Having "a few" years of not visiting a dentist, I was referred to Dr. Rosi. Dreading the experience, Dr. Rosi was very down to earth and we had a good time laughing at my own doing of needing an extra extra deep cleaning. The techs are funny and made my time there enjoyable. Dr. Rosi's bed side manner, should make it easy for me to come in regularly and not wait for another "extra extra cleaning"! Thank you Dr. Rosi.

DENTAL CHECKUPS

IF YOU HAVEN’T HAD A DENTAL CHECKUP FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS DON’T PUT IT OFF ANY LONGER. YOUR HEALTH DEPENDS ON IT!

In addition to daily brushing and flossing, you can help defend your oral health by visiting our dentist office for a regular cleaning. Depending on your dental history we recommended that most patients get a dental checkup every six months.

We can tell a lot about your overall health, including developing signs of other more serious overall health concerns. Recent research suggests that the overall health of your mouth reflects the condition of your body as a whole.

Dr. Shrestha will perform your dental checkup which typically involves the following treatments:

Examination. Dr. Shrestha will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, to look for changes or signs of a problem like a cavity, gum disease, an abscessed tooth, gum recession, tooth decay, oral cancer, etc. During the examination, Dr. Shrestha will use a specialized probe to measure the spaces between your teeth and gums, an explorer tool to inspect your teeth and determine if any cavities are present, and a mouth mirror to get a better view of the sides and back of your teeth. Part of every examination includes a Veloscope exam free of charge looking for oral cancer.

X-rays. In order to look for decay, gum disease, or other dental problems we may need to take X-rays of your teeth.

Cleaning and polishing. Our trained dental hygienist will use a special instrument called a hand scaler or ultrasonic dental instrument to scrape and remove the tartar from your teeth. We will then polish your teeth, often with a rotating rubber cup or brush, to remove any residual stains or plaque. Our hygienists are experts at using air polishers. Air polishers project a gentle stream of water and a special cleaning powder. You won’t believe how smooth and clean your teeth feel after air polishing. If you have a stain on your teeth Air polishing is very effective and the most gentle way to remove this stain.

Education. After the cleaning, our hygienist will discuss any dental hygiene issues that were detected and if necessary, show you how to brush and floss more effectively. They will recommend any aids and products that might help you if incorporated into your dental hygiene home regime.

Since your oral health is closely related to your overall health, it’s important to mention any concerns or issues you are having with Dr. Shrestha during your next visit.

Make sure you let us know:

  • Discuss any new health problems you have been diagnosed with since your last visit (for example, diabetes or heart disease) with Dr. Shrestha.
  • Make a list of all medications and supplements you take, including their dosages so we can review it.
  • Let Dr. Shrestha know if you typically experience dental anxiety when visiting a dentist. Fear of the dentist is common, and we are great at making patients feel more comfortable during your checkup.
  • Speak with Dr. Shrestha about any issues or changes you’ve noticed with your teeth, gums, or the inside of your mouth. The earlier your dentist knows about pain, sensitivity, or a suspicious lump, the quicker we can diagnose and treat it.

DON’T DELAY SCHEDULE YOUR CHECKUP TODAY!

ROUTINE DENTAL CHECKUPS

Routine dental checkups are vital to good oral hygiene and are the best way to detect problems at their earliest stages. Early detection and treatment saves unnecessary discomfort, time and money.

The Academy of General Dentistry recommends checkups twice a year. Oral hygiene needs change with age and the condition of your teeth and gums. Your dentist may recommend a checkup schedule that is more or less frequent than twice a year.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your dental checkup includes:

  • A visual exam of your mouth, face, jaw and neck
  • Digital diagnostics, as determined by your dentist
  • A gingival pocket exam
  • Professional cleaning of your teeth
  • Comprehensive data capture in an electronic dental record
VISUAL EXAMINATION

During a visual exam, your dentist will use an intraoral camera with sophisticated magnification and lighting to see all surface areas inside your mouth. You will be able to watch the real-time, tooth-by-tooth video exam on your chairside monitor.

Your dentist looks not only for cracked and decayed teeth, but also for growths and sores on the roof and floor of your mouth, tongue, lips, gums, and the mucous membranes that line your cheeks and gums. Then your dentist will check the lymph nodes of your head, jaw and neck for pain, tenderness and flexibility.

DIGITAL DIAGNOSTICS
  • Digital X-rays: Digital X-rays detect dental problems that cannot be found during a visual exam. We use Digital X-rays that provide instant results and emit 90 percent less radiation. Your dentist determines how often you need to have Digital X-rays.
  • Gingival Pocket Exam: Healthy teeth require healthy gums. A gingival pocket exam determines the presence or risk of gum (periodontal) disease.
GINGIVAL POCKET EXAM

Healthy teeth require healthy gums. A gingival pocket exam determines the presence or risk of gum (periodontal) disease.

What to Know:

  • Each tooth sits inside a gingival pocket of gum tissue. Food debris and plaque naturally collect inside this pocket.
  • Daily tooth brushing and flossing remove food debris and plaque from the gingival pocket. If not removed, harmful bacteria penetrate the gumline and deepen the pocket.
  • As the depth of a gingival pocket increases, so does the risk of tooth damage and infection that leads to gum disease.
  • During your exam, a hand-held instrument is gently placed between gums and teeth (sulcus) to measure the depth of each pocket.
  • In its earliest stage, gum disease may be reversible. Since it rarely has symptoms of pain, it is possible to have gum disease and not know it.
PROFESSIONAL CLEANING

Your teeth are cleaned using special instruments to remove plaque from above and below the gumline. Afterwards, your teeth are polished. Tooth polishing makes your teeth look and feel great. It also smoothes tooth surfaces so plaque is less likely to accumulate.

ELECTRONIC DENTAL RECORDS

The records of our patients’ dental checkups, diagnostics and treatments are kept electronically. Our patients benefit because our dentists and specialists have immediate, comprehensive access to medical histories as well as the results of previous and current exams, diagnostics, treatment plans and progress reports. Electronic dental records improve patient safety and create clinical efficiencies that help reduce patient waiting time before and during appointments.

GOOD ORAL HYGIENE

The key to healthy teeth and gums is keeping plaque and food decay from building up in your mouth. Plaque and food decay attract harmful bacteria that cause cavities, gum disease and persistent bad breath.

Your tongue attracts bacteria, too. During the normal process of eating, tiny fragments of food collect on your tongue. As these fragments decay, bacteria create a filmy white coating on the top of your tongue.

Practice the four-step routine to keep plaque and harmful bacteria from building up in your mouth.

EASY FOUR-STEP ROUTINE

To keep your teeth and gums healthy:

  • Brush your teeth and use an antiseptic mouthwash twice daily (after breakfast and before bedtime)
  • Use dental floss daily
  • Clean your tongue regularly by using a toothbrush or a tongue scraper
  • See your dentist for routine dental checkups
BENEFITS OF GOOD HYGIENE

When you practice good oral hygiene, you will:

  • Have less plaque to remove during routine dental checkups, so professional cleanings will be faster and more comfortable
  • Minimize your need for dental procedures due to tooth decay or gum disease
  • Minimize your annual dental budget
  • Feel healthier
  • Enjoy fresher breath
  • Be more confident about your smile
INFANTS & SMALL CHILDREN

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a child’s first visit to the dentist be around age three unless any of these dental health risk factors exist:

  • Sleeping with a cup or bottle
  • Thumb sucking
  • Teeth staining
  • Down Syndrome
CHILDREN’S ORAL HYGIENE

When your child’s teeth begin to erupt, wipe them daily with a moist washcloth to remove tooth plaque.

As your child grows more teeth, use a soft child’s toothbrush with non-fluoride toothpaste (like Baby OraGel) until your child is able to spit out the toothpaste.

When your child is ready to use fluoridated toothpaste, use only a small pea-size amount on the toothbrush. Swallowing too much fluoridated toothpaste can lead to staining of children’s teeth (dental fluorosis).

TEETH CLEANINGS

DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A FRESH, CLEAN BEAUTIFUL SMILE?

The best way to improve your oral health and ensure your teeth look amazing is to get your teeth professionally cleaned by our trained Dental Hygienists here at Crossroads Dental Group, at least, twice a year.

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) strongly recommends that a dentist or hygienist perform a dental cleaning, at least, every six months. This professional dental cleaning bolsters your brushing, flossing and rinsing regimen at home and gives our dentists an opportunity to discover areas of the mouth that may need specific care.

Patients who practice good oral hygiene at home with proper brushing, flossing and rinsing routines rarely experience discomfort during a cleaning. However, those who have neglected their oral hygiene practices may encounter some sensitivity or minor discomfort during a teeth cleaning. To alleviate any discomfort our hygienist can use a topical anesthetic prior to the cleaning.

We believe the best kind of general dentistry is the kind that keeps our patients healthy and happy, so during a cleaning, you’ll receive preventive and diagnostic services in addition to any required educational information.

Preventive, diagnostic and educational services may include:

  • Evaluation of gum tissue
    Removal of plaque and tartar
    Stain removal
  • Polishing teeth Cleaning and adjustment of dentures and partial dentures
  • Tooth brushing and flossing instructions
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Recommendations for future treatment: when to return for follow-up hygiene treatment, periodontal (gum) concerns or restorative options
  • Evaluation of self-care effectiveness

Deep Cleanings: At times tartar can build under the gumline and a periodontal pocket can form. A toothbrush and floss are no longer sufficient to reach and to clean the hard tartar. Tartar is the hardened or calcified plaque that adheres firmly to the tooth. Our dentist and assistants are expert at going in and gently removing this tartar. It is necessary to have the patient numb to have this cleaning done. It is called scaling and root planing or sometimes called quadrant scaling. After this is done we place our patient on care as needed, most of the time after scaling and root planing we want the patient to come back every 3-4 months until we can get their periodontal health returned to normal.

WITH REGULAR BRUSHING, FLOSSING, RINSING, BI-ANNUAL CLEANINGS ALONG WITH ROUTINE DENTAL EXAMS, YOU CAN KEEP YOUR SMILE BRIGHT AND HEALTHY FOR YEARS TO COME.

FLUORIDE TREATMENTS

FLUORIDE IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF HEALTHY TEETH

What Is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element that strengthens teeth and helps to prevent tooth decay. There are many sources of fluoride in various amounts from our water to the food we eat and many kinds of toothpaste, rinses, and professional treatments that contain fluoride.

Why Is Fluoride Important To Our Teeth?
Fluoride strengthens teeth by helping to speed remineralization of tooth enamel. In this process, minerals such as fluoride, calcium and phosphate are deposited in the enamel and help stop tooth decay. There is a constant process of demineralization and remineralization happening in our mouths. Fluoride helps keep the process more balanced and helps defend the teeth against the acids that we eat and drink and the acids produced by bacteria.

Fluoride treatments help to prevent tooth decay in both children and adults. Anyone who is at risk of dental decay should consider topical fluoride treatments. This fluoride is applied directly to the teeth. It is typically a concentrated sticky paste which deposits a great amount of fluoride directly onto the tooth. The fluoride treatments we offer in our dental office have more fluoride than over-the-counter fluoride mouthwash or toothpaste options and stay on the teeth longer, allowing them to be used by the tooth.

We often give fluoride treatments to children as their teeth are developing and their oral hygiene habits are often less than exemplary. The treatments provide additional protection against cavities, even if children already drink fluoridated water.

After Your Fluoride Treatment
To help increase the fluoride’s contact with the teeth, please don’t eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after treatment.

For people with extensive recurring decay, Dr. Shrestha may also recommend trays to use at home with prescription fluoride, xylitol gum, or special toothpaste tablets with arginine. Our understanding of the science of tooth decay is expanding and Dr. Shrestha’s office is at the forefront of this field.

IF YOU ARE USING ANY FLUORIDE PRODUCTS IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TALK TO DR. SHRESTHA SO WE CAN HELP DETERMINE WHICH ARE BEST FOR YOU OR YOUR CHILD.

ORAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTION

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO REMOVE PLAQUE EACH DAY?

Daily plaque control is key to a healthy smile. The problem is most people are not very effective or consistent with removing plaque each day. Bacterial plaque is the #1 cause of periodontal gum disease and tooth decay. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria and is the major cause of adult tooth loss which affects three out of every four adults.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for plaque. Plaque forms constantly on the teeth, so it must constantly be removed and killed. The science of plaque growth and its effect on both teeth and periodontal health is a growing field. The days of blaming a patient for not brushing or eating too much sugar are over. The mouth has a complex chemistry. Some of this chemistry the patient can control, some they can not.

There is no one magic key to oral health that fits all patients. Dr. Shrestha is at the forefront in the field of cariology. Dr. Shrestha strives to explain to the patient their own specific need. Decay and periodontal disease are both caused by bacteria, but they act in different ways. Some patients have deeper grooves or poorly formed enamel. Some patients have poor salivary flow or highly mineralized saliva. All of these things must be considered to tailor an oral hygiene plan that works for each patient.

Every patient should be brushing twice daily for 2 minutes and flossing at least once daily. A fluoride rinse is a great idea for most everyone, but may not be enough for some patients. We are able to offer arginine tablets, fluoride trays, xylitol gum or lozenges to patients that need them.

One of the things that really sets Dr. Shrestha’s office apart is our drive to help the patient understand their oral hygiene needs and set a customized routine in place. We really believe that education and prevention are part of our job.

CALL US TODAY, SO WE CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN OPTIMAL ORAL HEALTH.
